Every day in Latvia, several children are in need of a foster family, but there are not enough families.* This is your opportunity to open your heart and home, to give a child what each of us considers a humane and obvious way to experience childhood – love, security, and family.
For six years, "AIRI Vecākiem" family care support center has been supporting and educating foster families, adopters, guardians, and host families. Thanks to these families, children have the opportunity to grow up in a stable and protected environment. Currently, there is a significant shortage of foster families in Latvia, making your support more valuable than ever.
Why become a foster family?
In a foster family, children can feel safe and loved. By becoming a foster family, you can provide a child with something they may have never experienced – the warmth and stability of a family. A family is the most suitable environment for a child to grow up in if it is not possible in their birth family. On your foster family journey, you will not be alone, as the staff from the “AIRI Vecakiem” support center will provide you with the necessary support and knowledge.
How can you support?
If you are not ready to become a foster family, you can support families who have chosen to take children under their wing. With your donation, we can provide greater support to existing foster families, as taking in children requires substantial emotional and physical resources. Your donation will be a significant contribution to the development of the foster family community and help move towards a situation where every child in Latvia can grow up in a safe and supportive environment.
How can you get involved?
- Become a foster family! Join the foster family community and give a child what they need most – love and stability. To become a foster family, apply for upcoming foster family training!
- Support with a donation! Every euro helps us provide better conditions and additional resources for foster families who are already caring for children.
Why now?
In the month of Mother's Day, each of us thinks about the love and care we received in childhood. This is a wonderful opportunity to pass on the emotions experienced in childhood, helping children who need it the most.
Become a foster family or support a foster family, so children can grow up in a loving environment!
*In 2023, 1153 children’s parents had their parental rights terminated, and the number of potential adopters and foster families has decreased more than twice in the last five years. In 2019, 421 people received adopter status, and 110 became foster families, but in 2023, 200 received adopter status and 51 became foster families.
