Support to families in crisis situation has started in Bauska already in 2006 – the first family strengthening project by SOS Latvia was implemented here until 2008, then handed over to municipality. But after a couple of years we restarted our help - from January 2011 to July 2012, in Bauska we implemented a Latvian and Swiss program grant funded project called “Inclusive family, kindergarten, school and society”. 319 children and young people were involved in the project and received specialist services.
Bauska municipality and Latvian SOS Children’s Villages Association agreed on the continuation of the work started in the project “Supporting and Strengthening Families in Bauska”. This project operated successfully in cooperation with Bauska Social Services.
Bauska SOS Family support center is registered in the LR Ministry of Welfare Register of Social Service Providers. A team of experts is available in Centre (premises at the Bauska Social Services), Rūpniecības ielā 7, and at a number of rural territories, as our team of specialists is quite mobile.
In 2013 we provided services to an average of 168 children from 57 families per month. In 2014 – to an average of 109 children from 40 families, in 2015 support services were provided to 131 child, in average for 105 child and 41 family per month.
Supportive services were adjusted individually after each family went through a social problems assessment. In addition to two social workers and social work rehabilitator services, families were provided with support groups for children, adolescents, and parents; a Children Emotional Upbringing group, as well as a psychologist, a lawyer and an addiction specialist were available for individual consultations. Educational and leisure activities, participation in various campaigns, children’s summer camps, family seminars, workshops and summer camps were also organized (thanks for co-financing to ABLV Charitable Foundation camp program). We could provide material support to families, also by organizing a “Family helps Family” program.
In 2013-2015 Bauska SOS Family Support Center was implementing the project “Development of Support Measures for Disadvantaged Families with Children for their Integration in Society”. This project is financially supported by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism Program, a “NGO Fund” sub-program (for details on the project see “Finished Projects” section). Many of the Centre's activities were carried out directly in this project, including support groups held for women who have been victims of violence, as well as 6 young mentors offered their support for six youngsters for social risk families, a workbook for mentors was developed.
MANY THANKS TO OUR SUPPORTERS, DONATORS and COOPERATION PARTNERS!
